Onboarding Kimi Claw: My New Virtual Engineer
I have been using Moonshot AI Kimi K2.5 lately, and the performance relative to the budget is impressive. While I built the first 20% of Overspend.me using Claude, I have since unsubscribed and completed the remaining 80% using Kimi. When they released the Kimi Claw beta, I saw an opportunity to scale my output without the traditional friction of a hiring process.
My goal was specific: I wanted an agent capable of fixing bugs and managing development tasks while I am away from my desk. However, because this is an experimental workflow, I am not treating it as a “set and forget” tool. I approached this as I would at my software house, acting in my role as CTO to formally onboard Kimi Claw as a new team member. I provided it with a dedicated email and GitHub account, then added it to the repository with specific permissions to edit code and submit Pull Requests for my review.
Because these processes are still new, strict monitoring is mandatory. I don’t just let the agent run wild; I review the PRs and the logic behind the changes just as I would with a junior developer. This oversight is critical for maintaining security and code integrity.
Furthermore, I have realized that relying on a single model is not enough. To build a robust automated workflow, considering and utilizing various types of AI agents is a must. Different agents excel at different tasks—some for refactoring, some for debugging, and others for logic architecture. By diversifying the agents I use, I can cross-reference their outputs and reduce the risk of a single point of failure.
This setup mirrors what I have implemented at my company, where we host Nanoclaw on a VM for the team. Having an additional “employee” ready to work instantly on my side projects provides a level of capacity that was previously impossible for a solo builder. It allows the development of Overspend.me to continue during my off-time, effectively doubling my productivity without the overhead of a recruiting cycle.
